Dzmitry Zavadski disappeared 10 years ago
The fate of the well-known cameraman is still unknown. On the morning of that day Zavadski, who worked for a Russian TV channel ORT (at present- the First Channel) set off for the National Airport “Minsk” to meet his colleague – Pavel Sharamet. Nobody has seen Dzmitry since then. His car was found at the airport.
Minsk Regional Court returned the group of a former member of special police troops “Diamond” belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Valery Ihnatovich - guilty of the abduction of Zavadski in 2002. Two members of the group and Ihnatovich were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Republican Office of the Public Prosecutor suspended the investigation of the abduction of Zavadski “in connection with the fact that the missing person had not been found” in March 2004. The investigation was resumed in 2005 and suspended again in April 2006.
"We have demanded to resume the investigation of the criminal case many times because Ihnatovich’s group was accused only of his abduction and illegal personal restraint”, - informs BelTA quoting a lawyer and human rights activist Harry Pahanyaila. – So they were not officially guilty of his death… However, no our appeals were satisfied. If Dzmitry Zavadzki’s death is recognized, somebody has to be subjected to responsibility for it”.
