EU calls not to recognise Abkhazia, South Ossetia

The European Union has resolutely condemned the unilateral recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent countries by Russia, according to the declaration of the EU emergency summit.
"This decision is unacceptable, and the European Union calls on other countries not to recognise this self-declared inependence", the statement said.

The declaration also notes that the heads of EU member states have decided to postpone talks with Russia on a new partnership deal until Russian troops withdraw to the pre-conflict positions.

Belapan reports EU leaders have declared that the conflict in Georgia has urged the need to diversify energy sources in order to reduce dependence on Russian energy supplies. The European Union has also expressed an intention to bolster relations with neighbors in the East.
