EU to continue dialogue with Belarus with regard to death penalty abolishment
The European Union intends to continue the dialogue with Belarus with regard to the death penalty abolishment issue. The Chargé d'affaires of the Delegation of the European Commission to Belarus Jean-Eric Holzapfel has informed about this.
According to him, certain steps towards the death penalty abolishment have been made by Belarus, a parliamentary group for discussion of this issue has been created.Jean-Eric Holzapfel expressed his hope that there would be a broad discussion within the Belarusian society, in the end of which death penalty would be abolished or there would be at least a moratorium for it.
"Abolishment of the death penalty is the key condition for Belarus' membership in the Council of Europe.We would like to see Belarus as a full-capacity member", — quotes the diplomat's words BELTA.
