EU to expand "black list" of Belarusian officials
Judges and public prosecutors who participate in reprisals against political prisoners will be added to the "black list".
The Ambassador of Hungary to Belarus Ferenc Kontra has said this. According to him, the European Union does not want to see people who harass the Belarusian civil society and demand five years of imprisonment for the participants of the Dec. 19 action, in its territory, “Nasha Niva” reports.
The diplomat thinks that "courts in Belarus are not totally independent". If the courts were democratic, these people would be fined or subjected to administrative detention at the most, Mr. Kontra has said.
He has noted that the EU's reaction was not noticed in Minsk. "More and more politicians stand for imposing targeted economic sanctions on Belarus”, he has informed. “If our voice is unheard, we will have nothing more to do than to impose further sanctions. A political dialogue between Belarus and the EU fails, - the diplomat has said.
