EurAsEC summit to take place in Astana today

Meetings of the Interstate Council of the Eurasian Economic Community and the Higher Council of the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia will take place in Astana today, informs BelaPAN. The Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka left for Kazakhstan yesterday, on July 4. Besides the EurAsEC summit, he will take part in events dated for the anniversary of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. The most important documents concerning the Customs Code of the Customs Union that came into power on July 1 will be signed at the summit. A new version of the Statute of the EurAsEC will also be considered there – it will expand the power in discussion of Customs Union’s issues.

The midpoint of the today’s summit is the format of the union. Russia stressed many times that the union would be created anyway – either on a trilateral or bilateral basis. Belarus delayed the ratification of the Customs Union until the last moment and Lukashenka informed that the document had been approved only on July 3.
