European parliament to pass resolution on Belarus

The European Parliament is expected during today's session in Strasbourg to vote on a resoution on the situation in Belarus. According to Belapan which quotes the press office of the European Parliament, representatives from the European Commission and the European Union's Council will speak out their positions regarding the development of relations with Belarus during today's hearing. MEPs will discuss EU's policy towards Belarus and the situation in this country.

Five resolution drafts have been filed. The European deputies urge to bind the issue of deveoping a dialogue with Belarus with the pace of democratic reforms in the country.

The list of proposals also includes the facilitation of the visa regime and notes the importance of European companies in privatization processes and expresses concerns over plans of Belarus to construct a "Russia's Chernobyl-type" nuclear power plant near the border of the European Union.
