Europe's Schengen zone grows

Nine new states have become members of the Schengen agreement which now embraces 24 nations. The Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia joined the passport-free travel zone.
The list of Schengen states before December 21, 2007 included Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

Experts note that Schengen zone's expansion will mean beefed up security in relations with the neighboring non-EU states: Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Serbia and Croatia, reports RIA Novosti.
