“Freedom House” includes Belarus in top 10 of violators of freedom of press

“Freedom House” notes, that amendments allowing 2 years of imprisonment for “discrediting Belarus before the international community and foreign governments” have been included in the county’s Criminal Code. The same term of imprisonment can be given for distribution of “false information about the political, economic and social life of Belarus”. “Freedom House” also stresses that the authorities control the Internet in the country. Sites of independent and non-governmental organizations are often blocked. Surveys for the report were conducted in 195 countries.
