“Gazprom” to buy “Beltransgaz” instead of giving credit

“Gazprom”’s share in “Beltransgaz” will soon reach 50%. According to “Kommersant”, the agreement was reached at the meeting of Alyaksandr Lukashenka with Dmitry Medvedev on March 19. The Russian company paid for another 12% of shares in January and it is the owner of 37.5% now.

The agreement on the purchase of another part of shares was reached during the negotiations concerning the gas issue. The Russian newspaper informs that the Belarusian authorities pretended they did not notice that the gas price had increased from 128 to 210 dollars for one thousand cubic metres and paid for supplies according to the old tariff. As a result, Minsk owes “Gazprom” about $70 million for two winter months.

However, all the problems were solved at the meeting. Belarus will continue buying Russian gas for $210 for one thousand cubic meters.
