Gazprom: No cuts of natural gas transit via Belarus

Gazprom did not ask Ukraine to increase the flow of transit gas to Europe, the Russian energy giant told Belapan news agency when asked to comment on the recent media reports. The Ukrainian weekly Zerkalo Nedeli published an article recently, suggesting that Gazprom had allegedly requested Ukraine to increase natural gas transit by 55-67 million cubic meters a day. The newspaper referred to a source at Ukraine's Ministry of Energy.

On June 22, Ukraine's PM Nikolai Nazarov said that Ukraine could pump more Russian gas if Belarus and Russian ended up in a dispute again. The talk was about 15-20 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Gazprom confirmed today that the transit of Russian natural gas via Ukraine was normal and as scheduled.
