Greece refuses from referendum on Lisbon treaty

Greece's parliament has voted against holding a national referendum on the Lisbon treaty reform. Out of 296 MPs who took part in the vote, 152 members of the New Democracy ruling party said no to the referendum.  Only 144 voted in favor of the referendum. At least 180 votes were required to approve the proposal.

The Lisbon Treaty was put forward for ratifiction by 27 members states of the European Union instead of the Europe's Constitution, rejected during referenda in France and the Netherlands. However, on June 12, 2008, Ireland upset Brussels by saying 'no' to the Lisbon Treaty at a national referendum, reports Ria Novosti.
