Hadron collider ready for power-up

The European Organization for Nuclear Research, better known for its French name Cern, is today expected to launch the largest particle acceleration experiment on the Grand Hadron Collider. The collider, build 100-meter deep under the French-Swiss border, is a 27-km tunnel which accommodates a giant pipe.

The experiment aims to send the beams of protons in the opposite directions, to speed them up to near the light-speed and clash them afterwards with huge energy. Scientists expect that new elementary particles will be detected during the clash, thus giving new clues to the Big Bang.

Experts maintain that the collider experiment is safe, but there are many of those who are getting ready for the doomday, reports Interfax
