House of Representatives to consider draft about “Belarusian’s card” in July

The draft of the law about compatriots will be sent to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly in July. The deputy commissioner on religious and national matters Uladzimir Lameka has informed about it. About 3.5 million compatriots live abroad now. About 1 million Belarusians live in Canada and the USA, 870 thousands - in Russia, 300 thousands in Ukraine and 130 thousands – in Israel. The law is supposed to denote the status of a compatriot and a corresponding certificate – “a Belarusian’s card”.

Belarusian officials hope to get money from the Belarusian diaspora with the help of the law. Unfortunately, according to U.Lameka, compatriots expect to get moneyed assistance from their ethnical motherland with the help of the draft. They are expecting a simplification or liquidation of the visa regime, accommodation benefits, education quotas and placement assistance.
