Ihar Charnyauski: Information about inclusion of Lenin’s monument on UNESCO List is a pack of lies!
The monument to Lenin will not be nominated for inclusion on the List of historical and cultural heritage of UNESCO. The head of the department for protection of historical and cultural heritage and restoration of the Ministry of Culture Ihar Charnyauski has informed ERB about it. Charnyauskі: I can add and it may sound rude: it is a brazen lie! There is no monument in Independence Square to be added there – nobody has even intended to nominate it. Furthermore, the monument is not separate… It is part of the complex of the House of the Government. It was built this way in the 30s, the object is not separate.
Let us remind you that information about the addition of the monument to Lenin on the List of UNESCO appeared on Minsk Executive Committee’s website on May 13.
According to Ihar Charnyauski, Belarus has already nominated 10 object for inclusion on the List of UNESCO – they can be seen on the organization’s website. Two of them are being considered as candidates for the inclusion – the August Canal, Sofia Cathedral and Polatsk Church of Spaso Preobrazhenie (Material realization of the spiritual heritage of Euphrosinia of Polatsk). They are in the World Heritage Centre. Belarus has been informed that the monuments meet the technical requirements. A UNESCO expert has already visited Polatsk and is expected to visit the August canal soon.
