IMF: Belarusian economy’s problem is small amount of gold and foreign currency reserves

The International Monetary Fund thinks that one of the main problems of the Belarusian economy is small amount of gold and foreign currency reserves. The director of the IMF’s European department Marek Belka has claimed it at the today’s meeting with PM Syarhei Sidorski. The representative of the IMF notes that “the problem of small amount of gold and foreign currency reserves” in Belarus “may pose a threat to the country’s stability”. According to Marek Belka, a lot of attention will be paid to the issue in the joint programme realised by the Belarusian authorities and the IMF.

"On the whole, we are satisfied with the general direction of the economic policy of the Belarusian government”, - reports BelaPAN quoting the IMF’s representative.
