Independence Day marked today in Poland
The Independence day is celebrated in Poland since 1937. Poland assumed independence on November 11, 1918 after the World War I. Poland reappeared on the map of Europe after more than a century of partitions by Austria-Hungary, Prussia, and Russia. During the World War II and existense of the People's Republic of Poland it was forbitted to celebrate November 11. The tradition to mark the Independence Day on November 11 has been resumed in 1989 and is kept until the present moment. Official events are traditionally held in Warsaw and other cities on this day.
