International Day against nuclear tests is celebrated today

Today the International  Day against nuclear tests is celebrated for the first time. This date was approved last December by the decision of the UNO General Assembly. Let us remind you, that on August 29, 1949 the first tests of nuclear weapons in the USSR were conducted at the fire ground near the Kazakh town Semipalatinsk. The fire ground was closed on the same date 42 years after. More than 450 nuclear tests were conducted there on the whole. These tests caused incurable harm to the environment, informs The First TV-Channel.

The International Day against nuclear tests is aimed at informing people about the consequences of nuclear weapons tests and the necessity to stop them, reminds RIA Novosti
