International Migrants Day marked today

Taking the increasing number of migrants all over the world into account, the General Assembly announced December 18 the International Migrants Day on December 4, 2000. The Assembly adopted the international convention on the protection of the rights of migrant workers and members of their families on this day in 1990. UN member states, governmental organizations and NGOs marked the Migrants Day by dissemination of information on human rights and fundamental political freedoms of migrants and through sharing of experiences and the design of actions to ensure the protection of migrants.
