Investigation of death of Vitautas Patunas in Belarus is resumed in Lithuania
Vilnius Court has obliged the General Office of Public Prosecutor of Lithuania to resume the investigation of the criminal case concerning the death of a member of the State Security Department Vitautas Patunas. Let us remind you that the adviser of the Consulate General of Lithuania in Hrodna died in Belarus in August 2006. Patunas fell off the window on the eighth floor of a Brest hotel.
The General Office of Public Prosecutor of Lithuania stopped the investigation in December 2006 because it was found out that “the death of Patunas was caused by an accident not connected to actions of any other people”.
The widow of the late officer of the state security did not agree to that conclusion and turned to the General Office of Public Prosecutor asking to resume the investigation several months ago. However, she was refused.
She and her lawyer claim that the fact that the State Security Department member was killed is evident.
