Kalyakin: Lukashenka's promise to West was fiction
The leader of the Party of Communists, Siarhei Kalyakin, said at a press conference in Minsk on Monday that the authorities were nevertheless defeated during Sunday's election:
"The authorities have lost both politically and morally. There will be consequences, because we have only preliminary observance results. There is no general analysis yet of what was taking place at polling stations. What Lukashenka promised the West and Belarusians has turned out to be a fiction".
According to Kalyakin, one should not expect any changes for the better. He has no hopes either that during the next presidential elections, the situation will be more liberal than during this year's polls. Kalyakin is confident that in 2011 "the situation will be even more stringent".
The leader of Communists said that "unsufficient number of people" supported the pro-democracy forces". "The regime can be defeated by strength only. And the strength is to have support of the majority of people", the politician noted. He called to continue the struggle.
