Lawmakers to ban 'operative experiments' for petty crimes

Lawmakers are set to pass a bill that will restrict 'operative experiments' in Belarus, Belta news agency quotes Viktar Huminski, National Security Committee Chairman, as saying. MPs are expected to discuss the legislation in the first reading at the session of the House of Representatives on December 4.

Under the legislation, petty crimes (from 2 to 6 years in prison) will be crossed out of list of crimes that allow 'operative experiments'.

According to Huminski, numerous facts of violations during 'operative experiments' were detected by the police and the Office of Prosecutor General. For instance, detectives would often provoke citizens into committing crimes and falsify the results of investigation.
