Lawyers of late billionaire's family write to Belarus Prosecutor General
The British lawyers hired by the family of billionaire Badri Patarkatsishvili who recently died in London, have written an open letter to Belarus's Prosecutor General Ryhor Vasilevich. A similar letter was also sent to Georgian Prime Minister Lado Gurgenidze. The lawyers are accusing American investment banker Joseph Cay of trying to obtain control over the property of the late businessman.
It is no wonder that the Belarusian prosecutor was bothered in association with this case. On March 12 at the Minsk International Airport, the Belarus security service detained American lawyer Emanuel Zeltser who is often described as "a prominent expert in money-laundering cases". He was arrested allegedly at the request of the Russian law-enforcement authorities.
According to the list of British lawyers, Zeltser was going to team up with Cay in order to expropriate Patarkatsishvili's heritage. They used forged documents allegedly signed by the late billionaire, reports nregion.com.
Former Russian oligarch Boris Berezovski has confirmed that Cay (he describes him as an migrant from Georgia Joseph Kakalashvili) and Zeltser (a migrant from Moldova) are swindlers. According to Novosti Georgia, Berezovski maintains that they attempted to get control over the billionaire's property around the world, including in Georgia and Belarus.
