Lithuanian customs stop Belarus bus with Lenin images
The bus carrying Belarus's junior football national team was detained at the border by Lithunian custom officials, because it was "decorated" with four Lenin medals. Lithuania this year introduced an official ban on the use of Nazi and Soviet symbols. The Lithuanian officers ordered the driver to cover the Lenin's images, otherwise Belarusian footballers would have to return home.
The Belarus junior team participated in a tournament in the town of Kreting. Vilnius-based newspaper Respublika reports that when at the local stadium, the Belarusian bus did not hide Lenin's images.
It is noteworthy that traffic police officers who stopped the bus on its way to the Baltic Sea to check the documents had no problems with the Soviet symbols.
