Belarusian President Alyaksandr
Lukashenka told Russian journalists that the Kremlin has made a $500-million
installement of a loan conditional on Belarus'
recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. "They went as far as to come
and say: recognize Ossetia and Abkhazia and get the $500 million," he
replied to a journalist's question about the reasons for the Russian
government's refusal to make the money available to Belarus. "But the Belarusian
leadership is not going to sell certain issues or positions," he added.
