Lukashenka tells parliament to consider recognition of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Borodin claims

Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka told the House of Representatives to consider recognizing Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states, Novyye Izvestiya quoted Pavel Borodin, state secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, as saying.
Borodin said he had passed a request by the presidents of the Georgian breakaway territories for recognition to "Belarusian colleagues."

Uladzimir Andreychanka, the newly elected chairman of the new House, told reporters in Minsk on Monday, that the chamber would consider recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia when the proposal is formally introduced in Parliament. “The opinion of the people should be taken into account,” he added. “But nobody has sponsored the proposal yet.”

On October 13, Abkhazia's parliament appealed to Belarus' legislature to recognize the territory's independence.
