M. Charhіnets: I admit that it could be done by foreign opposition and not ours
The head of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic of the Belarusian National Assembly on international affaires and national security Mikalai Charhinets told ERB about the possible versions of the explosion in Minsk.
He thinks that there can be two versions – a villainous act of hooliganism and a terrorist act. Charhinets admits that a mentally ill person could “engage in hooliganism” on July 4 and that there can be “a foreign trace” if it was a terrorist act.
Mіkalai Charhіnets: "It is difficult to suspect some members of the [Belarusian] opposition. However, we have a moral right to remind them about the fact that not much time has passed since mass riots in Minsk. Leaflets containing instructions about creating blasting assemblies and using them were distributed then. It did happen… I even admit that it was not our opposition but foreigners like UNA[-UNSO]”.
General Charhinets probably means the events of 1996 when a group of members of UNA-UNSO took part in the Chernobyl Way action in Minsk. The group actively participated in blowing up police cordons. Several people were sentenced to imprisonment in Belarusian prisons after that.
