Markets and trade centers on nation-wide strike in Belarus

Entrepreneurs in Belarus are today staging a one-day nation-wide strike to protest against the presidential decree which they say will force them into bankruptcy after January 1, 2008. Anatol Shumchanka, the leader of the Perspektyva union of entrepreneurs, told the European Radio for Belarus that most of the markets and trade centers joined the strike.

"The major market-places and trade centers, including Zhdanovichy, Dynamo, Chervenski, Urucha, Parking, Lusterka, Europa, Kupalauski, Bigzz and partially Svelta, have backed the strike”.

In the regional centers, entrepreneurs across Belarus also joined the strike. Only in Vitsebsk, just 15 percent of vendors walked out today, according to Shumchanka.
