Maternity leave to become longer?
The government in Belarus plans to study additional incentives in order to inrease the country's birth rate, said Aliaksandra Lisouskaya, the head of family and gender policy department at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
Beginning from the next year, it is planned to increase government aid to mothers with children up to three years by 100 percent of the minimum wage, she said. Additionally, other proposals and incentives will be studied.
One of the proposals deals with extending the naternity leave for two more weeks. Parallel to that, it is planned to study the experience of birth incentives in the other countries, in particular, the "maternity capital" program. However, it is still premature to insist that it will definitely be introduced in Belarus, reports Zviazda newspaper.
