MAZ to axe 5000 jobs

The economic situation at the Minsk Automobile Works (MAZ) has continued to deteriorate, with 5000 jobs expected to be cut and new working shifts to be introduced, reports Salidarnasc.  Aliaksandr Barouski, new MAZ CEO who took over the factory three months ago, plans several anti-crisis measures. It is assumed that MAZ will work not more than 16-17 days per month.

The axing of 5000 jobs will most affect junior engineers and technical workers. Besides, bonuses will be reduced.

MAZ management also plans to refuse gradually from supporting social infrastructure like resorts, a hospital, kindergartens and summer camps.
