Member of “Malady Front” threatened with criminal case for draft evasion

An activist of Baranavichy affiliate of “Malady Front” and an exhibitioner of Kastus Kalinowski programme Pyotr Ruzau is threatened with a criminal case for draft evasion. According to Pyotr, a criminal case was started against him last year and he was fined twice for not attending check-ups in the military registration and enlistment office while he was abroad. He sent a certificate proving that he was a student of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and the case was closed.
However, an investigator of Baranavichy police phoned the mother of the member of “Malady Front” on February 18 and told her that a criminal case for draft evasion had been started against Pyotr. Besides draft evasion, he is also accused of forging documents. The military registration and enlistment office considers the certificate issued by Adam Mickiewicz University to be a fake.  The investigator demanded that Pyotr should immediately return to Belarus to give written evidence and threaten his mother that the member of “Malady Front” would be deported according to the existing agreements between Belarus and Poland.

“Baranavichy affiliate of “Malady Front” organized an anti-corruption campaign directed against the Mayor of Baranavichy Victar Dzichkouski last summer. After that a number of members of “Malady Front” who took part in the campaign started having problems in the military registration and enlistment office. I do not think it is a mere coincidence”, - said Pyotr in an interview with ERB.
