Mikalai Statkevich to stand trial in Minsk today
A politician Mikalai Statkevich will probably have to stand trial for the yesterday’s action dated for May Day. He is the only one to have spent the night in the confinement cell in Akrestsina Street.
Let us remind you that the incident took place during a May Day meeting organized by the official Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions. The head of the steering committee on creation of “Narodnaya Hramada” party Mikalai Statkevich and his adherents hoisted the flag of the European Union. The police detained them for it.
On the whole, more than two dozen people were detained during the May Day events. The irony of it is that the people detained for participation in May Day events were delivered to Pershamaiski (May Day) District Department of the Interior. The majority of them were youth activists.
According to the BelaPAN agency, protocols for participation in an unauthorized action or for disobedience to the police were drawn up only against some of the detained. The leaders of an unregistered organization “Malady Front” Zmitser Dashkevich and Artur Finkevich were among them. However, they were let off together with the others. They only person remaining in the confinement cell in Mikalai Statkevich.
