Mikhail Pashkevich sentenced to 7 days of arrest

Mikhail Pashkevich, an activist with Young Democrats and an observer from the United Civic Party at the Central Elections Commission, has been sentenced to seven days of administrative arrest.

He was detained allegedly for cursing in the evening of June 28 when he was returning home from a meeting of his party's political council.

Additionally, Pashkevich received a fine of Br350,000 ($175). Radio Liberty journalist Lyubou Luniova was also penalized with a Br280,000 fine. They were punished for "disrespecting the court". Luniova was whispering to someone on the phone, while Pashkevich said: "I don't answer idiotic questions".

Since Mikhail Pashkevich was earlier convicted in the "case of 14", any violation, especially, the administrative arrest, can lead to imprisonment for the opposition activist, writes Nasha Niva
