More than 150 rescuers look for 12 miners in Yanokiev
12 miners were blocked underground after an explosion of air-gas mixture in Karl Marx mine in Yunokiev, Donetsk Region (Ukraine) on June 8. Rescuers from the chief department of the Ministry of Emergency Control and from the State rescue service are working there – 156 people and 32 machines. Psychologists from the Emergency Control Ministry are working with the miners’ families.
The explosion occurred on June 8 at 5 a.m. 37 miners were working there at that moment. A fire started in the pit head used for lifting miners to the surface. 5 people were injured on the surface. They were taken to hospital with burns.
24 miners were saved and one person died. 29 miners are in hospital, three of them are in a very serious condition, two people received moderate burns and 24 miners need a medical check-up. A state commission is working on the spot.
