New IMF mission begins work in Belarus
A new mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today began work in Belarus to evaluate the economic situation in the country, especially the recent economic changes. The Interfax news agency repots that this is an intermidiate visit of IMF experts in the framework of the stand-by program ahead of the evaluation mission that plans to arrive in Minsk in April.
In January 2009, IMF's Executive Borad of Directors approved a $2.46 billion loan to back up the implementation of the 15-months-long reform program.
Belarus has already received the first installment of $788 million. The next installments will depend on the quarterly reports to be submitted by the Belarus government. The country's finance ministry expects to receive the next installment of around $400 million in April 2009.
