Number of Belarusians in Russia keeps decreasing

The number of Belarusians living in Russia has decreased drastically. It has been stated by the IV Congress of the Federal National-Cultural autonomy “Belarusians of Russia”. BelaPAN notes that 1 million 260 thousand people said they were Belarusians in 1989. According to the census of 2002, only 810 thousand Belarusians remained there.

Delegates and participants of the congress claimed about their desire to preserve the national characteristic, language, traditions, identity and the centuries-old friendship with peoples of Russia.
