“Occupation” of Belarusian Consulate in Saint Petersburg interrupted by lunch

Anarchists spent an hour and a half at the Embassy and left during the lunch break.
Four Russian anarchists arrived at the Belarusian Embassy affiliate in Saint Petersburg on September 29. They demanded to release hostages in Belarus. They did not specify what hostages they meant.

Saint Petersburg affiliate of the Belarusian Embassy has informed ERB that anarchists insisted on meeting the Consul. However, the administration was absent.

Employee of the Embassy: “They organized a small demarche. They remained near the counter and claimed they would stay there forever. However, they left when the lunch break started. They wanted to give a letter to the Consul. They did not give the letter to anyone. They insisted on handing it to him personally”.
A decision about further actions in connection with the failed occupation attempt will be taken by the administration of the Belarusian Embassy affiliate in Saint Petersburg.

The reason for the Russian anarchists’ actions was the attack against the Russian Embassy to Minsk on August 30. A previously unknown anarchist group “Freedom Friends” took the responsibility for it. It caused numerous detentions of social activists in Belarus. Three people are still in jail at the moment – Mikalai Dzyadok, Alyaksandr Frantskevich and Ihar Truhanovich.
