Office of Public Prosecutor defends organizers of last year’s “live shield”
Minsk Office of Public Prosecutor refused to start a criminal case against two driving inspectors who tried to stop a drunken driver with the help of “a live shield” near the “Expobel” centre on Minsk ring road in October last year.
Several people were severely injured at that time. The victims lodged a complaint about the driving inspectors’ actions and sent it to the General Office of Public prosecutor in March 2008. However, the check-up revealed that the victims had organized the jam on the road themselves (!), reports “Salidarnast”.
This is what Vera Stramkouskaya, the lawyer of the victims of the last year’s (less notorious) and this year’s “live shields” said in an interview with ERB:
"We have two cases. The case concerning the incident that took place on March 2 will be considered on June 19th. There is another incident that took place in October 2007 – the accident near “Expobel”. There was a complaint sent to the city Prosecutor. However, no criminal case was started. We are trying to appeal the decision in the Republican Office of Public Prosecutor now”.
The process concerning “the live shield” organized by members of the driving inspectorate on Minsk-Miklashevichy highway this year will take place in Zaslauye Court, Minsk District. Only two driving inspectors from Minsk Kastrychnitski District Department of the Interior will stand trial. No corpus delicti was found in the actions of the other two inspectors and they have already got down to their work.
