One of six witnesses of Khatyn tragedy has passed away
A 79-year-old witness of the tragedy in Khatyn, Uladzimir Yaskevich, died on September 3. He was buried in Lahoisk cemetery on September 5, reports Charter-97. Let us remind you that the village of Khatyn was burnt down by German soldiers during the World War II in 1943. Partisans fired at a column of Hitler’s soldiers and killed a German officer a day before the tragedy. It happened 6 kilometres away from the village.
Villagers were pushed into a shed and burnt alive in response to it. 149 adults and children died there. Six people including five children are considered to be witnesses of the tragedy.
