Opposition leaves opening of special session of the Parliament unnoticed

No street action is prepared by the opposition structures in this regard. During preparation for the Solidarity Day in August, the leader of Minsk city organization of the BPF party Viktar Ivashkevich declared the next street action would take place on September 7 - the day the opening of the special session of Parliament was sceduled for; moreover, the date of Presidential elections could be also announced on that day. However, as it was informed to the European Radio for Belarus by Ivashkevich himself, there will be no action.

Ivashkevich: “The steering committee of representatives of other democratic forces failed to organize itself. That is why they decided, and I agreed with this decision, to conduct an action in the end of the campaign on collecting signatures. It is necessary to conduct a wide agitation campaign if we want more people to stand in a solidarity chain. Collecting of signatures can become such a campaign”.

According to Ivashkevich, the organizers plan to turn the public's attention to the issue of democratic character of upcoming elections and once again to the missing politicians issue, by this action.
