Opposition to submit to MPs signatures against abolition of benefits
Activists with the United Pro-Democracy Forces are today expected to submit appeals protesting against the abolition of social benefits to the Belarusian lawmakers who opened their fall session after the summer break. The appeals are signed by dozens of thousand of people from across Belarus.
People demand that lawmakers "change the social policy of the government to the advantage of the Belarus's population and revise the law on the abolition of social guarantees".
The exact number of collected signatures is not yet available, because some activists are still on the way from the regions, bringing the signature to the capital. During the Sunday pickets, 2000 signatures were gathered, while in Pinsk 800 people signed the appeals.
