Orthodox Christians’ Lent starts today

The Lent of Orthodox Christians starts on Monday. It is the longest and the strictest of the four long fasts of the Orthodox Church.
The Lent was established in memory of the 40-days fast of Jesus Christ in the dessert. “Interfax” notes that the first week of the Lent is the strictest. The Orthodox Church recommends that believers should refuse from all food on Monday and Tuesday.
