OSCE representative compliments Belarus for absence of “black list” of websites
The absence of registration of Internet mass media and the fact that “the black list” of unwanted websites has not been created yet characterizes the Belarusian Internet segment in a good way. However, it is desirable that Belarus should not limit the freedom of speech on the Internet in the future. The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunya Miyatovich has claimed it. Miyatovich: "I expect and hope that the legislation concerning this field will be changed in a certain way. It is necessary to simplify the serious and complicating effect produced by the legislation of the rights of citizens to express their opinion online. Especially before the elections of the Belarusian President appointed for December 19”.
In Dunya Miyatovich’s opinion expressed at the round-table discussion “Belarusian Internet segment: problems and prospects”, limiting the Internet resembles burning down books. A round-table discussion of officials from the Ministry of Information, the President’s Operative Analytical Centre, providers, representatives of Internet mass media, the Belarusian Association of Journalists and all the interested is taking place in Minsk now.
