Over 10,000 Catholics gather at fest in Budslau

Catholics from across Belarus have gathered in the town of Budslau to pray to the icon of the God's Mother of Budslau.

This is the first pilgrimage for many who started their trip in June.

"Obviously, there are more than 10,000 people here. They are everywhere around the cathedral. They have come here from across Belarus," Jaugen Androsik, a pilgrimage participant, told the European Radio for Belarus.

During this year's pilgrimage, Catholics brought a 200-kg wooden cross in a boat from Vilnius.

The cross is made of the timber that used to be transported by water 500 years ago from the Miadzel district to the ancient capital of the Old Duchy of Lithuania in order to build a monastery.

Festivities will end with a prayer that started at noon.
