Parsyukevich's mother files complaint with UN Human Rights Committee
The mother of Siarhei Parsykevich, an entrepreneur from Vitsebsk sentenced to two and a half years in prison, on May 26 filed her complaint with the UN Human Rights Committee. Parsyukevich was found guilty of beating up a police officer. Belapan reports that Vera Parsyukevich has approached the international independent body, because her son's right to freedom and personal immunity, envisaged by Article 9 in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, was violated.
After his detention, Parsyukevich was entitled to having an immediate access to a judge who would decide on his arrest or release. Parsyukevich was detained on March 4 but appeared in front of a judge only on March 22.
