People pay tribute to Stalin terror victims
Taking part were around 30 people -- young opposition activists,
business people, Stalinist terror survivors and members of the Belarusian
Voluntary Society for Historic and Cultural Heritage Protection.
US Charge d’Affaires Jonathan Moore also was there.
They lightened candles, laid flowers at memorial signs and held a
one-minute silence. They also put up a memorial plaque commemorating 52

Thousands are believed to have been executed by the NKVD secret police
at the site in the 1930s.
Lyavon Barshchewski, chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front, also made
a speech, noting that the more Belarusians would visit the "sacred
places," the higher chance that atrocities of Stalin's regime would never
repeat.
Earlier this week, unknown people damaged seven wood crosses at
Kurapaty, which is not patrolled and is often targeted by vandals.
