Polish citizens protest against Belarus foreign minister's visit

Politicians in Poland also demand not to allow Belarus' foreign minister Sergei Martynov into the country. The visit is scheduled to take place on February 12, reports Charter'97. The Polish opposition party Law and Justice led by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the brother of Poland's president Lech Kaczynski, has approached Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski, demanding to cancel the visit of Belarus foreign minister Sergei Martynov to Warsaw.

In addition, Law and Justice has called on Polish prime minister Donald Tusk to ask the European Union to impose a trade embargo on Belarus.

In return, Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that he was not gointg to cancel the visit of his Belarusian counterpart. According to Sikorski, one must talk to Belarus instead of isolating it.

The tension escalated after the Belarusian law-enforcers seized the Polish House in Ivianets on February 8. The house belongs to the unregistered Union of Poles in Belarus. Poland recalled Ambassador Genrich Litvin for consultations in protest of persecution of the Polish minority in Belarus.
