Polish deputies suggest awarding Sakharov Prize to Kazulin

The European Parliament awards this prize for human rights activities every year. It was given to the Belarusian Association of Journalists and Alyaksandr Milinkevich last year. Polish European Parliament deputies have suggested giving it to Alyaksandr Kazulin.
According to the Polish radio, the idea of awarding the former political prisoner with the prize was initiated by the head of the European parliamentary commission on relations with Belarus Yatsek Pratasevich. More than 30 signatures of deputies have already been collected. Most of them belong to deputies from former Soviet republics.

Alyaksandr Kazulin told ERB that Sakharov Prize was very important but he did not want to be ahead of time.

“Sakharov is a moral authority. He is not just a moral authority; he is a symbol of an epoch. But I never hurry. Prison teaches patience. We will talk about it when it happens. But it is the future”.

By the way, Alyaksandr Kazluin has a very serious rival nominated for Sakharov prize - Dalai Lama.
