Popular Front activist supports young doctor's hunger strike in Haradok

Leanid Autukhou, the chairman of the local branch of the Belarusian Popular Front in Haradok, Vitsebsk region, has joined a hunger strike that was yesterday announced by a young doctor who cannot find a job.
Aliaksandr Zhytkevich decided to go on a hunger strike in protest against job rejections by several agricultural enterprises in the district.

The dentist, deprived of the job by the court judgment, recons that the managers of enterprises deliberately reject his job applications because of his active public stance and Popular Front membership.

Leanid Autukhou has been unemployed since 2008. He says there are at least 70 vacancies in the district, but companies do not wish to employ 'oppositionists' even as janitors, custodians or farmers.

The hunger strikers notified the police, the unemployment center and the local authorities about their action.
