Price of Russian gas to double on July 1

Belarus will start buying Russian gas for its full price, 100 USD per 1 thousand cubic meters, starting from July 1.
The agreement between our countries was reached at the beginning of the year.

Let us remind you that Belarus got the right for “a period of adaptation”: the country paid only 55% of the price of Russian gas for half a year.

At the same time, the Belarusian debt to “Gazprom” reached 400 million USD in May.

The Belarusian government claims that the country hopes to find a way to pay the debt till July 23. Otherwise, the debt may total 500 million USD.

Belarus has been trying to get a Russian credit of 1.5 billion dollars to pay its debts for several months. But Russia takes its time.

The Minister of Economy Mikalai Zaichanka has informed that the necessity to pay the full price for Russian gas “will not influence the economic situation” in Belarus at a press conference today.

According to him, the economy will not face any dramatic changes because “our agents of management have been paying the full price of gas since January 1”.

Let us remind you that Belarus received 625 million dollars from “Gazprom” at the beginning of June. The sum was paid for 12.5% “Beltransgaz”’s shares.
