Prosecutor's office justifies arrest of Volny Horad newspaper
Krychau District Prosecutor's Office found no grounds to open criminal proceedings against local policemen. Uladzimir Kudrautsau, publisher of the local independent newspaper Volny Horad, accused three police officers of stealing 297 copies of his newspaper and hindering the professional operation of journalists, reports Radio Svaboda.
The district prosecutor wrote to Kudrautsau that the unregistered publication Volny Horad was published in violation of the media law. Therefore, there were no grounds for opening a criminal case against the police officers that had visited the editorial office.
The seized edition had an article titled "NTV Destroys Reputation of President Lukashenka" which carried a comment by Pavel Sheremet on the Russian TV company's film Godfagher.
